91¹ú²úÊÓƵ had two students compete in the American Welding Society’s annual regional welding competition Friday, April 22, at Surry 91¹ú²úÊÓƵ College in Dobson. Chance Askew placed 8th overall and James McDonald placed in the top 20. Students from nine community colleges — Central Piedmont, Craven, Guilford, Johnston, Lenoir, Nash, 91¹ú²úÊÓƵ, Rowan-Cabarrus and Wake — participated in the competition.

Each competitor had to complete welds in three different processes — stick, MIG and TIG.

Winners received helmets, gloves and other personal safety equipment donated by local businesses.
